GOURMAND WORLD COOKBOOK AWARDS 2004
Grythyttan, Sweden February 11, 2005
COOKBOOKS INTERNATIONAL RIGHTS MEETING
The Best in the World for Food and Wine books published in 2004 will be announced on February 11, 2005, in Grythyttan, Sweden, 190 kilometers west of Stockholm.
Publishers and authors from over 30 countries will meet for business and pleasure in a relaxed, and focused environment. A special International Rights Center has been organized.
Why Sweden?
The New York Times said There is a culinary revolution in Sweden. You have to experience it, you will be amazed.
Sweden, and Scandinavia, now have the best market in the world for cookbooks.
With a population of 9 million Sweden publishes 400 new titles a year, which is 2 to 3 times the comparable ratio of other western countries. A large number of titles are purchased translations, which makes Sweden a most interesting market for selling international rights, at least as worthwhile a visit as France or Spain for foreign authors and publishers. The printings of successful cookbooks are the same as France or Spain.
Nearly all Swedes speak English. There is a strong tradition for hosting foreigners with superb style and class well known from the Nobel Prizes.
Destination Grythyttan, Province of Orëbro
The Swedish pavilion of the Sevilla World Fair of 1992 was moved to Grythyttan, and it now houses the unique Library and Museum of cookbooks of Sweden, by far the best in Europe. The University of Orëbro has in the same building a hospitality course up to the doctorate degree. It includes the culinary theatre, with 3 kitchens rising from below the stage, and another one coming down from above!
Sweden in February is magical, and Grythyttan is a dream for food and wine book lovers.
