THE SHORTLIST

The shortlist has been published for the top nominees for Best in the World

It includes cookbooks from 45 countries, in 40 categories.

The US, the UK, Germany, France and Spain have the largest numbers of cookbooks qualified on the shortlist . For the first time there are cookbooks from Antigua, Benin, Botswana, and Bangladesh. Books from 107 countries were received in 2007 for the competition.

There are wine books from 19 countries, in 16 categories. Most of the books come from traditional wine book publishing countries in Europe and the US. There are also excellent wine books this year from China, Indonesia, Malta, Russia and Scandinavia.

There is now an obvious strong improvement in the quality of culinary publishing in all countries . It is thanks to the market demand, excellent sales in Eastern Europe and Asia, and the new digital technologies.

All those books in the shortlist, and all others in the competition will be in the Gourmand Yearbook 2008, published in April 2008. You can see them at the London Book Fair on our stand U800. The Best in the World winners will be announced on April 13, 2008 in London.
